2012-2013 Academic Year Scholarships and Awards
Who may apply?
Full-time students currently majoring in Art at MU-Columbia, who also will be enrolled as full-time Art majors at MU-Columbia during the Fall 2012 semester. (Note: students in their final, graduating semester are exempt from the requirement of full-time enrollment.) Undergraduate Students
- Richard Hennessey Scholarship
Up to $6000 award will be given to one or more Undergraduate students with Art major, full-time study (12 hrs or more). student must be of high moral character. Must have completed at least 1 term of full-time study at MU. Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. Must be planning to enroll full-time for the academic year following when scholarship is actually awarded; no graduating seniors. The student needs to have completed a FAFSA (this can be done online at www.fafsa.gov) in order to have an “EFC” or “Expected Family Contribution,” which the FAFSA will generate for them. To qualify for financial need, a Missouri resident needs an EFC of less than $22,216 and Non-residents need an EFC of less than $34,158.
- Hazel S. Burney Art Scholarship
First preference is to award a scholarship to students majoring in Art. Up to 3 awards of $500.
- Matthew Fahey Cox Ceramics Scholarship
BFA student entering Junior or Senior year; if Junior level student selected, award may be renewed for an additional year if student is making satisfactory progress. Must have strong interest in artistic career as production potter. Recipients must submit ceramics work for review, with a written declaration of interest. One student will be awarded $500.
- William B. Ittner Sr. Fine Arts Prize
A student majoring in art, in any year of study "who has done work of sufficient merit to be worthy of recognition." Award shall only be made if there is a student worthy of the recognition. One student will be awarded $500.
- Redford Michael Perrine Scholarship
Full-time fine arts (BFA) or art (BA) major; must have a "B" or "C" (2.0 - 3.0 GPA) grade standing. Up to 4 awards of $600.
- Richard and Patricia Wallace Endowment for the Arts
Up to 2 awards of $500 will be given to the student most notably demonstrating excellence in the field of Art.
- John S. Weller Memorial Fund
Art major in the Department of Art, who has demonstrated special talent. A total of $400 will be awarded for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Graduate Students
- Donald Bartlett Memorial Scholarship
Full-time graduate student; one or more $250 awards annually. Recipients must submit a portfolio of their work for review, with a written declaration of interest.
- Hazel S. Burney Art Scholarship
First preference is to award a scholarship to students majoring in Art. Up to 3 awards of $500.
- Ann Hoffman Memorial Scholarship
Female MFA student; "Shall be talented, and shall have a specialty of photo print making or ceramics" A total of $600 will be awarded.
- Dorothy Rollins Memorial Scholarship
Graduate students in Painting and/or Drawing. Students must have completed at least 9 semester hours. For the 2012-2013 academic year, one award of $4,500 will be given to the eligible student who is most outstanding in the areas of Painting and/or Drawing. (The guidelines to apply for this scholarship are specific and unique. please see Alan Toigoin A129 to pick up the Rollins Memorial Scholarship Application Form.
- Richard and Patricia Wallace Endowment for the Arts
Up to 2 awards of $500 will be given to the student most notably demonstrating excellence in the field of Art.
- Verna Wulfekammer Art Doctoral Fellowship
One award of $4,500 will be given to an MFA student with a concentration of study in Fibers.
How do I apply?
The Deadline to submit all application materials is Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. Please deliver your application materials to the scholarship committee box in room A126 Fine Art Building. Any materials submitted after the 4:00 p.m. deadline will not be accepted.
All students interested in applying for the 2012-2013 Department of Art Scholarships & Awards must complete the following requirements, submitted on a CD-ROM or DVD along with a printed application form:
- Students may apply for more than one scholarship or award. Only one application form and one disc of images is necessary to apply for multiple awards. You may list names of the scholarships you are applying for on the application form.
- You must submit no fewer than 5 but no more than 10 digital images of your original artwork, in jpeg format. Artwork must have been completed within the last two calendar years. Jpeg files must be 72 dpi, and sized to 1920 pixels in the longest dimension. You may submit the same images for multiple awards. Each image file must be titled in the following format: Your Last Name, Your First Name, Image Number, Title of Work.jpeg. (Example: John Smith is submitting six digital images for consideration. His first image file, Red Picture, would be saved as SmithJohn01RedPicture.jpeg.)
