Scholarships and Awards

2009-2010 Academic Year Scholarships and Awards

Who may apply?

Full-time students currently majoring in Art at MU-Columbia, who also will be enrolled as full-time Art majors at MU-Columbia during the Fall 2009 semester. (Note: students in their final, graduating semester are exempt from the requirement of full-time enrollment.)

Undergraduate Students

  • Hazel S. Burney Art Scholarship
    Undergraduate and Graduate students. One (or more) awards will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating excellence in the field Art. A total of $500 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • Matthew Fahey Cox Ceramics Scholarship
    Undergraduate BFA students entering their Junior or Senior year in Fall 2009. One $350 award will be given to the student most showing exceptional potential in Ceramics. Applicants must have a strong interest in a career as a production potter.
  • William B. Ittner Sr. Fine Arts Prize
    Undergraduate students. One award of $729 will be given to the student who has done work of sufficient merit to be worthy of recognition.
  • Redford Michael Perrine Scholarship
    Undergraduate students. Applicants must have a “B” or “C” (2.0 – 3.0) grade point average. One (or more) awards will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating excellence in the field of Art. A total of $6,000 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • Richard and Patricia Wallace Endowment for the Arts
    Undergraduate and Graduate students. One (or more) awards will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating excellence in the field of Art. A total of $2,590 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • John S. Weller Memorial Fund
    Undergraduate students. One (or more) awards will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating special talent and financial need. A total of $493 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Graduate Students

  • Donald Bartlett Memorial Scholarship
    Graduate students with a major emphasis in Sculpture. One (or more) awards of $250 will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating excellence in Sculpture.
  • Hazel S. Burney Art Scholarship
    Undergraduate and Graduate students. One (or more) awards will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating excellence in the field Art. A total of $500 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • Ann Hoffman Memorial Scholarship
    Female Graduate students in Photography, Printmaking, or Ceramics. One (or more) awards will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating special talent and financial need. A total of $1,650 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • Dorothy Rollins Memorial Scholarship
    Graduate students in Painting and/or Drawing. Students must have completed at least 9 semester hours. One award of $5,000 will be given to the eligible student who is most outstanding in the areas of Painting and/or Drawing. (The guidelines to apply for this scholarship are specific and unique. Please refer to the guidelines, application procedures, and deadlines (pdf) for this particular award.)
  • Richard and Patricia Wallace Endowment for the Arts
    Undergraduate and Graduate students. One (or more) awards will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating excellence in the field of Art. A total of $2,590 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • Verna Wulfekammer Art Doctoral Fellowship
    Graduate students with a concentration of study in Fibers. One (or more) awards will be given to the student (or students) most notably demonstrating excellence in Fibers. A total of $6,265 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year.

How do I apply?

All students interested in applying for the 2009-2010 Department of Art Scholarships & Awards must complete the following requirements, submitted on a CD-ROM or DVD:

  • Students may apply for more than one scholarship or award. Students applying for multiple awards must submit individual CD-ROM/DVD disc applications PER EACH AWARD for which you wish to be considered. Each disc should contain all required application materials. Please clearly write your name and the scholarship/award for which you are applying on the disc.
  • You must submit no fewer than 5 but no more than 10 digital images of your original artwork, in jpeg format, for each award in which you wish to be considered. Artwork must have been completed within the last two calendar years. Jpeg files must be 72 dpi, and sized to 2048 pixels in the longest dimension. You may submit the same images for multiple awards. Each image file must be titled in the following format: Your Last Name, Your First Name, Image Number, Title of Work.jpeg. (Example: John Smith is submitting six digital images for consideration. His first image file, Red Picture, would be saved as SmithJohn01RedPicture.jpeg.)
  • You must complete the Department of Art 2009-2010 Academic Year Scholarships & Awards Application Form (Word). This form must be typed and submitted in digital form on your application disc.
